A lemon October 4, 2009 Sergei (Boston, MA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This product was a lemon right out of the box.
1) The pump is designed so poorly as to be absolutely useless. After trying it for 20 min I just used my bike pump.
2) The odor is so bad it will sting your eyes. I decided to go with this ball partially because I remembered the smell my previous ball emmitted for a couple of days. The company description on the site says "Gaiam was created as a lifestyle company with the vision that, given a choice, people would choose a lifestyle that is healthy and life enhancing, for themselves, their families and the Earth." I thought maybe these people make the ball from some less toxic material, natural latex or something like that. Alas, the smell was worse. After trying to air it out for a WEEK I would still get stinging feeling in my eyes when I was in the same room.
3) Finally, 75cm size is total BS. It says "75 cm" on the site, on the box and even on the ball itself. However after I inflated it fully I thought that it looked smaller than a 65cm ball I had before. Finally I measured it and sure enough it is 61cm.
Needless to say this Lemon is on it's way back to Amazon.
Not just for the ladies September 28, 2009 B. Levine (New York) Have a bad back, bought this product to do the lower body/ab/back exercises.
Nice variety from other exercise programs. The kit was great, nice DVD, easy to follow. The pump, ball and band appear to be of good quality.
Works ok, but i gotta refill it often August 28, 2009 MadMadisonMan (Seattle) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love these balls so much that now I use it when I'm sitting in front of the boob tube/PC instead of my couch. so maybe the reason I have to refill it so much is just because I use it every day... but I only weigh about 190 and since this is for people who are over 6' you'd think it'll hold the air a little better. I do find that I have to also adjust the ball to keep it from getting oblong but that may just be the nature of all these balls? Whatever, it works and I use it every day.
Great chair, but definitely get 75 cm August 19, 2009 L. Howard (california) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Various back and hip pains had me looking for a replacement for my Aeron chair. (Can't believe what I paid for that thing. Talk about effective marketing...) I work at my computer 8 to 10 hrs. a day, five to seven days a week. Extensive research brought me to the exercise ball. Luck (and the good Gaiam name) had me choose this ball. But I got the wrong size at first. Many sites recommend 65 cm for those 5'9" tall. This is WAY too short. I got 75 cm, and it seems to be the perfect height for me, and for anyone of any height, actually. Otherwise you're way too low.
My posture improved instantly. It was relatively easy to use, and by the end of the first week I was totally and completely in love. I sit at my computer 12 hrs. a day, 7 days a week. This thing makes me use my abs, legs, and back muscles all day long, but in a way I just don't notice. "Active exercise" is the term. I'm secretly hoping that my legs, butt, and abs will slowly but surely become tighter and more toned than ever. (Hey, a girl can dream.) And, as many others say here, I am much less tired at the end of the day. This ball is a great product. Buy Gaiam! Everything I've gotten from them has been the top of the line.
EDIT
Bonus benefit: Weight loss. It's now 10 days, and I've lost a tiny bit of weight every day while on the ball. Makes sense--my back/thighs/abs are getting a real workout. At first, I was tired after a couple hrs. on it. Now I use it all day before I'm tired. Am confident that as I shape up, the tiredness will disappear. And the disappearing weight is FANTASTIC. I feel so light on my feet!
Better off just buying the ball June 12, 2009 Casey E. Earley (Clifton, NJ) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It says that it comes with excersize DVD's and a resistance band, but you end up paying extra for something that you really don't use. The DVD's are yoga based, not really excersize geared. I would say you'd be better off getting the ball only and then a separate work out video.
