Manufacturer's Warranty Frame - 3 years; Parts - 6 months About Recumbent Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Assembled OK after tapping out a few bolt holes November 22, 2009 Mark Skubik (Santa Clara, California) I just put the bike together with my wife. The bike seems fine for what it is. It arrived intact and with no damage to the box. All of the parts were included - plus assembly tools. The assembly has only one real problem - two of the bolt holes were not tapped out properly and the M8 x 15mm bolts would not feed into the holes no matter how hard we tried. A trip to the hardware store to purchase an 8mm - 1.25 plug tap and tap wrench solved the problem. We also found is easier to use a regular Philips head screwdriver in place of what was provided in the box.
The bike has no smell and it is quiet.
Day one with the bike and we are happy with it. Now if I can just get my wife off of it, I may get some exercise!

Great Bike for the Money November 22, 2009 Indigo I'm very happy with this exercise bike. For the money, I think it's a great product, and I'm pleased with it. I'm amazed by how quiet it runs. I agree with other reviewers who mentioned that a light for the display would be helpful. Also, it does have a faint odor, but I think that is the oil. It's no biggie. Stirrups are difficult to adjust. Even the lowest resistance is quite something, though, for people who are doing physical therapy after an injury or surgical rehab. It would have been nice to have a greater range of resistance levels. Despite all of this, I think this is a great basic bike for $249. It does the job quite well!!!
Excellent value November 19, 2009 Shiloh I can only echo what most other reviewers have stated about this terrific bike. Very stable, extremely quiet and an pleasure to use.
I've had this for a little over a month now and so far it has performed as expected. I bought this machine to help me get back into some semblance of shape after going through chemo. I guess most people lose all of their weight with treatment but I put on almost forty pounds of fat. Along with that, the steroids cause muscle loss which might explain why I've found the resistance level of this bike to be appropriate for me, while some reviewers report that it doesn't generate enough for them. In short, I'm finding this to be a perfect first step on my road to better health.
Everything arrived on time and as expected and I was able to build it in less than an hour by myself using the supplied tools and instructions. If you've ever put anything together from a big box, you won't have any trouble with this. Once built it's solid as a rock and doesn't make any kind of creaking or groaning noises while in use. I ride along side the bed while my wife watches TV in the evenings and it is dead silent.
Okay so why only four stars? First, the display really does need to be backlit. Most of the information presented while actually riding the bike such as pulse and distance is clear enough but some of the text you read while setting up for a session is illegible in anything but full on direct light. I know I'm in my forties and all but my vision is still pretty good. Secondly, the seat starts getting a bit uncomfortable for me after forty minutes or so. Some kind of gel seat might help here.
Those are some very minor shortcomings for something as sturdy as this which costs so little.
If you're a beginner looking to start getting into shape or someone like me who's looking to recover from a battle with your own body, this is a great machine to begin with.
Schwinn Active 20 Recumbent Bike November 14, 2009 Duane Jerdee (Charles City, IA USA) Bike purchased about a month ago and am entirely satisfied with it. I was expecting to pay probably double what I did to get a "good" bike, but after reading all the reviews decided to try this one. Assembly is straight forward and took me about an hour. Bike is very portable with the front two built in wheels. Everything worked like a charm the first time I used it. It is VERY quiet, smooth and comfortable. My only complaint is the pedal straps...they are extremely difficult to snapped into place. I ended up using the bike without the straps and personally like it better that way anyway. I'm 5'9" and my wife is 5'3" and the seat adjusts perfectly for us both. I can't imagine anyone needing a more expensive bike for home use than this one. As usual, Amazon's shipping was great!
arrived damaged, squeaks November 11, 2009 Mom of 2 (Connecticut) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bike arrived damaged- one of the pipes is dented so it cannot fit with another pipe. Amazon requires you to re-package the bike and send it back at your cost- ridiculous! Nautilus (which makes this bike) will not deal with the problem either, as it is still within the return or exchange period. We decided to try to bang the (****) out of the end of the pipe to see if we could piece it back together. We did get it together, and it worked for a couple weeks...but we shouldn't have to settle for a broken bike- we paid the same $ as those whose did not get damaged in shipping! Now it is making a squeaking noise beneath the seat. Seems to be an unrelated problem. I think I read others had this problem as well. ANNOYING! Will have to see what others have done to resolve. If I could do this all over again, I'd go to a store to buy... maybe not even this bike. Item big & heavy enough that it has a high probability of damage, and then it costs too much to ship back! Amazon and UPS can and should do better. And Nautilus should be able to send out a replacement part for that particular part OR package with more protection. And they need to fix the seat problem. It does have a faint stink after a good spin, that shouldn't happen either.
-One unhappy customer.
