Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The SmartFiber we use in Citrucel with SmartFiber comes from cellulose, which occurs naturally in plants and is the most abundant, renewable fiber on earth. But we improved this natural fiber so that Citrucel with SmartFiber can promote regularity without causing bloating, gas and other side effects of other fiber products. You see, some fiber therapy products use psyllium seed husk as a fiber source, and the soluble fiber in psyllium is partly fermented in the large intestine and may create excess gas. Citrucel with SmartFiber is proven to help restore and maintain regularity, and it is the only fiber that wont ferment to cause excess gas*. Unlike the psyllium in some fiber products, which ferments in the large intestine, SmartFiber is methylcellulose. It cannot ferment and will not cause excess gas or bloating. Plus, SmartFiber is also non-allergenic and gluten free. Now thats Smart.

3 out of 5 stars Check expiration dates!   September 25, 2009
Levi (Grand Rapids, MI)
I like this product because it is an easy way to get needed fiber in my diet. However, the tubs I received were set to expire within a month. Typically the expiration date is at least a year out. I did receive a fairly quick response to my complaint. I returned the product at no charge to me and was told I will receive a new shipment as soon as they receive my return.

5 out of 5 stars Yummy fiber with calcium!   September 3, 2009
Gretchen (Troy, Michgan)
These are SOOOOO easy to eat; I highly recommend them for people trying to keep the fiber in their diet HIGH, as well as the calcium.

5 out of 5 stars Ideal fiber supplement for sensitive stomachs -- great taste plus calcium, like candy!   May 24, 2009

This Citrucel product (made by GlaxoSmithKline) uses a type of cellulose fiber that doesn't irritate my stomach. Not only does it add a calcium supplement and it is as easy to eat as a piece of candy.

(A bit of background: I added fiber supplements to my diet on the suggestion of my dietitian, who suggested that the additional fiber would both speed the passage of fatty foods and promote better intestinal health.)

My past experiences with fiber supplements include Metamucil (powder and crackers) and Fibercon tablets. The Metamucil worked great and without stomach irritation, but it was terribly inconvenient to prepare and somewhat distasteful to consume. I tried the Fibercon tablets next. The tablets eliminated the inconveniences of mixing powder and washing glasses, but the pills were too strong for my stomach and seemed better suited for extreme cases of digestive irregularity.
