3 out of 5 stars It's ok   November 21, 2009
Robert A. Flickinger (Woodstock, GA USA)
I bought this because Bayer used 1 type of test strips for all their meters. Prior to this I used a FreeStyle Lite meter. I got tired of trying to find the "lite" test strips. Seems they have a different test strip for each model of their meters.
As for the bayer meter,
1. it's a little bigger but that's no big deal.
2. The test strips are a tighter fit to get into the meter.
3. The strips themselves work well. You can actually watch it suck the blood drop in very quickly.

The problems I found...
If the blood drop isn't big enough and the strip doesn't suck it all the way up the strip, it errors and waste the test strip.
It seems to be accurate but not precise. That is, when I compared testing against my FreeStyle, 80% of the time the readings pretty much agreed - within a few points. When it was off - it was off. For Example, I could reading 117 on the FreeStyle, but the Bayer might read 132. I could then re-run the test and it would then show 120. So, I would conclude that was the Bayer meter in error and not the FreeStyle.
It's quick on the read and the test strips draw up the blood drop better then the FreeStyle lite strips. I haven't decided if I will switch to it yet. The other reason I'm considering the Bayer meter is because they are going to introduce a new meter that plugs into a usb port and is Mac computer compatible and it will use the same strips.

1 out of 5 stars NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 7   November 17, 2009
Robert in NY (New York, NY)
Nov 17, 2009: After ordering and paying for the data cable and software, I was advised by Bayer's Customer Service that their software is not compatible with Windows 7, and they have no idea when/if it will be. So if you intend to use the meter and your computer to maintain records, avoid this device. One of the more clueless customer service reps I've ever dealt with.

4 out of 5 stars Does the job   October 17, 2009
Daniel (Ithaca, NY United States)
This is my first glucose meter so i can't compare it to other models. All i know that the Consumer Reports gave it a best buy and that it does the job. It's nice that the kit comes also with 10 test strips and 10 lancets.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and easy to use meter   September 15, 2009

I like this meter because it's easy to see results on the big screen, you can mark them for pre and post prandial readings, and the test strips are simple to insert and remove. Plus, the results in the large memory can be uploaded to your computer using free software from Bayer so you can see graphical monitoring of your blood sugar over time. The USB cable for uploading is an extra cost item, but it's worth the nominal cost. You can even email the results to your doctor.

5 out of 5 stars Painful lancing device   August 8, 2009

I agree with all the above reviews. One thing I must add that the new lancing device accompanied this model is not very satisfactory and is simply painful whenever used to get a drop of blood. The depth settings are not clear on the barrel and you must be very careful not to press it too hard against your skin or you will get pain during blood sampling. In all other sense this is accurate and very convenient meter to use.For blood sampling pl use accucheck multiclix or soft clix lancing devices with very little pressure at the time of blood sampling.
