5 out of 5 stars It actually works!!   November 23, 2009
Cory Hallisey (Pittsburgh, PA USA)
The light usually wakes me about 5 minutes before the alarm goes off. Even on mornings when I'm a little hung over, the light still wakes me up. I would recommend this product to anyone who has to wake up before the sun.

3 out of 5 stars First one broke...working on the second one   November 20, 2009

Overall, the product lived up to it's expectation. The controls take a little getting used to but once you familiar, it's easy to use.

The light turns on 30 minutes before the alarm is to sound. If set to the maximum setting, the light will easily light up the room. I find that I sleep better at night knowing that the alarm is not just about to sound any second. As a result, I look at the time less. With the bright light in the room, I wake much easier.

After 20 days of use, the light on my initial model quit working. Thankfully, I am still in my return period to Amazon and received my replacement last night. Hopefully, the second one will fair much better.

2 out of 5 stars Not a goLITE   November 19, 2009

I am a very happy owner and a regular user of Philips goLITE. I thought that the Wake-up Light would be a perfect supplement of light therapy in the morning.

I am disappointed. The highest brightness level of the Wake-up Light is nowhere near comparable with the goLITE. I am a heavy sleeper and the Wake-up Light does not manage to wake me and the light does not make feel any more awake than usual, when I do. Which I understand perfectly, as how could I benefit from its light with my eyes closed.

All in all I think it is a very expensive alarm clock. Those looking for a cure of winter blues should definitely consider a goLITE instead.

1 out of 5 stars Poorly manufactured product   November 11, 2009

Be warned. I have gone through two of these in so many months and am now waiting to receive my third (under warranty for replacement but beyond the point for a cash refund). Both times the light has failed. I believe this product is inherently poorly designed and problem prone and would reinforce other reviews that say that controls are unnecessarily complicated. I enjoyed the wake up light function...while it worked (sarcasm). All I can do now is hope the third one works without problem. This product could be improved with the inclusion of a back-up battery in case of power outages, and of course correcting the electrical problem that causes the light to die prematurely.

5 out of 5 stars This Little Light Of Mine... A Great Way To Wake Up In The AM or Go To Sleep In The PM!   November 9, 2009

I have been using the Philips Wake-Up Light for a little over a month now and can honestly give this product a 5 out of 5 stars. The Philips Wake-Up Light is much more than a combination alarm clock and light. It TRULY is a DAWN and DUSK simulator. The Philips Wake-Up Light wakes you up in a natural way, by a light that increases gradually for 30 minutes that simulates the sun rising. I have REALLY found it extra beneficial since the "falling back" of Daylight Savings Time here in Ohio and on any gray or rainy day. This product is not to be confused with "light therapy" products for seasonal affective disorder. Check out Philips Go-Lite Blu for SAD.

The product has a built-in digital FM radio that lets you wake up to your favourite songs or news station every day. Just select your favourite radio station, and at your set wake-up time it will start to play, at first gently, gradually increasing over ninety seconds to the volume level you selected.

You can also drift to sleep with gradually dimming light and sound to mimic sundown or dusk. The gradual decreasing light and sound help you to drift to sleep. You can set your preferred time for the duration of the dusk simulation.

Lights up to 300 Lux for natural awakening because the senitivity to light differs a lot per person. In general, when using a higher light intensity a person needs less time to become fully awake. The light intensity of the Wake-up Light can be set up to 300 Lux or 20. This makes sure you can wake up to the light intensity that suits your personal preference best. I like mine set at a 12 or 13.

Features
Light wakes you gently
Great sound quality
Energy saving lamp
4 natural wake-up sounds or radio - birds, chimes, the most pleasant beep I have ever heard, or drums

Anti-slip rubber feet
Alarm test function
Snooze button for sound and light 9 minute(s)
Compact size Limited bedside table space required (14x19.5cm)
Electricity back-up function 5 minute(s)
User interface 3 wheels (push & turn), 1 switch

Voltage 110 V
Frequency 60 Hz
Cord length 200 cm
Lifetime of lamp expected >6.000 hours

The only thing, and I MEAN the only thing I would have added would have been a white noise option or crashing waves/rainfall for the dusk sounds so that using the falling asleep option would be easier.

All in all A GREAT PRODUCT that works great for me...

Pleasant dreams...
