Amazon.com Product Description
The Polar WearLink transmitter combines superior Polar technology with a new fabric design. The electrodes, which pick up the heart's signals, are engineered right into the fabric strap. The result is a superior fit for any individual body shape, providing revolutionary comfort and full freedom of movement. The transmitter's textile strap is removable and machine washable. Its clip-on mechanism ensures quick and easy wear, and the belt is easy to put on and take off.

Polar's coded technology ensures that the user picks up only their heart signal, and not the signal of another heart rate monitor nearby. With millions of HRMs in use today, there's a good chance that someone working out next to you may also have one on. Interference from any other HRM is now eliminated and an accurate signal is ensured.

About Polar
The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

5 out of 5 stars polar link   November 3, 2009
Anna M. Walkosz
I had lost my belt that originally came with my watch and i bought this as a replacement. I use it religiously.

1 out of 5 stars Long Time Customer - Really Disappointed   October 26, 2009
J. Muir (Midvale, UT USA)
My experience with this transmitter and the FT80. I have used Polar monitors for years and I can't tell you how disappointed I was when the first "improved" transmitter stopped working. It worked fine for about 10 weeks. Then I started getting readings of 208 before even warming up. I would mess around with the belt and transmitter over and over to make it work - and it would sometimes for about 5 minutes - then back to crazy readings. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, replaced a 10 week old battery - same results. So I bought another transmitter here on Amazon only to have it do exactly the same thing after only 2 weeks. The product is bad because of the transmitter and you cannot use the older models with it so I am back to using my Polar F6 which has been bulletproof (and costs 1/4th as much). Polar - you really need to fix the transmitter problem on the new watches and provide us an alternative to the one flawed transmitter you offer.

1 out of 5 stars This is not at Bluetooth device   October 17, 2009
MountainMan (Phoenix, AZ USA)
I ordered this to use with the Sports Tracker software used on my Nokia 5800XM cell phone. Polar does not specifically say with what devices either this does or does not work. The package says only "Compatible with Polar products utilizing 5kHz transmission technology." Exactly how many people know this technical specification? This rating is based solely on the fact that this is one of the few companies that does not specifically say what products work with their devices. Shame on me for not completing a thorough internet search that would have shown that other people have also fallen in the same trap. A search on Polar's site shows that Polar says to call Nokia and Nokia says to call Polar? I found a German language Polar site with an actual picture of the belt I need and the transmitter says "Polar for Nokia" and will be available in 2010. Why does Polar USA not simply say "available 2010?" Because the package was impossible to open without the use of scissors, the item is not returnable and I will attempt to sell it to someone who can use this with their Polar watch or with whatever "5kHz transmission technology" it works.

5 out of 5 stars Side Hook much better then Popins of Original   October 16, 2009
J. Payne (Illinois)
I was so happy that this strap and transmitter had the strap connecting on the side instead of the snap in using the transmitter, since the tabs on the transmitter broke within a week of original purchase, and that was just taking it on and off for normal use.
The previous one still worked even though the little tab pieces broke but I had intermittent problems and I feel it was caused by the possible unsecure connection with those broken tab parts missing.
I was also not sure if it would work with my rs400 since it had the new technology but it worked, put it on and first try it quickly got my heart rate. It was a relief cause I was worried it could have been the watch not the strap that was failing to receive proper HR readings.
Got the item on schedule, came in sealed retail packaging within a padded envelope.

1 out of 5 stars What's wrong with this product page?   October 6, 2009
Aaron Blandon (San Antonio)
There is zero information on this product page or on their website that is relevant to swimmers. How does one make a proper purchase decision without any information?

The main Polar website mentions that the T31 Coded is "fully water resistant and designed for all weather conditions" and that the Wearlink has a "machine washable strap." What could either of these descriptions have to do with the possibility of proper function in a submerged environment? Neither of these is sufficiently explicit.

Luckily I've located some information on a fringe "Australia Only" site. [...]

This is really basic stuff for such a company, and I shouldn't have to scour the internet for information that should be front and center.
